Asbestos Pipe Wrap and Duct Wrap Removal
In older homes built between the late 1920s and the late 1970s, asbestos wrap around boiler pipes and ductwork is typical. If your home or property was built during that time, the asbestos wrap may still be there if it was remodeled. If the basement has been finished, the asbestos wrap may be hidden in the walls and you are unaware of it.
As long as the asbestos is sealed away, you and your loved ones are safe. However, if you are doing renovations or need your Boiler / HVAC system repaired or rebuilt, it will be an issue and must be removed.
When it comes to safe asbestos pipe wrap and duct wrap removal, CPR24 Restoration, which serves all over the GTA, has extensive experience across the country. We are fully certified and trained to remove asbestos, regardless of the size of the project.
Inspection / Identification
The wrap is a paper-like substance with similar properties to plaster. It resembles a cloth substance wrapped around. In older homes, asbestos may be wrapped around the entire duct or pipe, whereas in subsequent homes, it may only be at the elbows and joints.
The asbestos wrap can be extended all the way to the floor vent. This provides a greater risk because the asbestos fibers may be disrupted and released into the air, where they can be easily ingested.
How It Was Used
Around pipe wrap and duct wrap, asbestos was utilized as insulation. It was proven to be particularly useful as insulation due to its heat resistance qualities. We wanted something that could withstand the enormous heat that ducts and pipes generate.
Because they provide positive pressure, asbestos wrap on the outside of heating supply ducts is less likely to release fibers into the air duct. Those who live near an asbestos-contaminated region should be concerned. However, asbestos wrap on the outside of return ducts poses a greater risk because it creates negative pressure, which can cause fibers to be expelled and blown throughout the home if the duct is damaged.
